Notice of Election 2025
Ludlow residents are being encouraged to consider making a difference and stand to become a parish councillor in their local community as nominations open for this year’s parish elections on 1st May.
Whilst each town and parish council in Shropshire is unique, as a local government sector, they are supported by Shropshire Association of Local Councils (SALC).
Councillor Ray Wickson, who is the Chairman of the Shropshire Association of Local Councils, said:
“Are you passionate about your local community? Do you want to contribute to its future, help shape decisions, and make a positive impact? Becoming a parish councillor is your chance to make a difference in your village or town.”
He added:
“On May 1st Shropshire votes to elect its parish and town councils for the next four years. There is a parish or town council in every community across Shropshire. Our Councils are at the heart of your local community and despite the challenging times, do some great work.”
“Parish councils are the first tier of local government here in Shropshire and provide an important voice for communities. As a parish councillor, you’ll have the opportunity to represent the needs and aspirations of residents, tackle local issues, and work on projects that truly make a difference. From improving community facilities to addressing environmental concerns, councillors are at the forefront of making their communities better places to live, work, and visit.”
Councillor Wickson said:

Represent residents’ views and make decisions on their behalf.

You don’t need special qualifications—just a genuine passion for your community and a willingness to learn. Parish councils’ welcome people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. If you care about your community and want to make a difference, you have what it takes to be a councillor.

1. Forms of nomination may be obtained from the Returning Officer at The Guildhall, Frankwell Quay, Shrewsbury, SY3 8HQ who will, at the request of an elector for any electoral area prepare a nomination paper for signature.
2. Nomination papers must be hand-delivered to the Returning Officer, The Guildhall, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY3 8HQ on any day after the date of this notice but no later than 4 pm on Wednesday, 2nd April 2025. Alternatively, candidates may submit their nomination papers at the following locations on specified dates, between the times shown below:

3. If any election is contested the poll will take place on Thursday, 1st May 2025.
4. Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at The Guildhall, Frankwell Quay, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY3 8HQ by 12 midnight on Friday 11 th April 2025. Applications can be made online at gov.uk/reqister-to-vote
5. Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal and postal proxy votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at The Guildhall, Frankwell Quay, Shrewsbury, SY3 8HQ by 5 pm on Monday, 14th April 2025.
6. Applications for a Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Elector's Document valid for this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5 pm on Wednesday, 23rd April 2025. Applications can be made online at gov. uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate
7. Applications, amendments or cancellations to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at The Guildhall, Frankwell Quay, Shrewsbury, SY3 8HQ by 5 pm on Wednesday, 23rd April 2025.
8. Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at The Guildhall, Frankwell Quay, Shrewsbury, SY3 8HQ by 5 pm on Thursday, 1st May 2025.
