Ludlow Town Council Calls for Urgent Progress on King Street Building Repairs
Ludlow Town Council has written to Shropshire Council to raise ongoing concerns about the large, deteriorating building on King Street and the need for urgent progress on its long‑planned improvement works. While the temporary removal of scaffolding for the May Fair was welcomed, the Council is keen to ensure that this does not lead to further delays or uncertainty around the building’s future.
The following letter sets out the Council’s position and the importance of timely action for the safety, appearance, and confidence of the town centre.
Open Letter to Shropshire Council
Re: Large, dilapidated building in King Street, Ludlow
Whilst it was entirely understandable—and indeed necessary—that access to the town was prioritised to support the May Fair, it is equally important not to lose sight of the essential improvement works that prompted the scaffolding in the first place.
The temporary removal of scaffolding should not signal a pause or reduction in commitment to the building’s refurbishment. The condition of the building has been a matter of concern, and the planned improvements are not merely cosmetic—they are vital for maintaining safety, preserving the character of the area, and supporting the long-term vitality of the town centre.
Delays or lack of urgency in completing these works risk undermining both public confidence and the visual and structural integrity of a prominent site.
Ludlow Town Council therefore urges Shropshire Council to ensure that improvement works resume promptly and are carried through efficiently to completion. Clear communication about timelines and progress would also help reassure residents and businesses that this project remains a priority.
