Designation of the River Teme at Ludlow as a Bathing Water
Following Defra’s national consultation, Ludlow Town Council is delighted that a bathing water designation has been approved for the river Teme at Ludlow, and the site will be added to the list of bathing waters.
Mayor of Ludlow, Councillor Beverley Waite said, ‘Well done to Ludlow Bathing Waters Group for making the application, and we are appreciative of the ongoing work of the staff and volunteers at the Severn Rivers Trust, who will be undertaking the weekly testing.’
Once the Environment Agency has given the river its official water quality classification, Ludlow Town Council shall install signage at the Linney Riverside Park to notify everyone.
The Environment Agency will prepare a bathing water profile for the site which will be available on its Swimfo website https://environment.data.gov.uk/bwq/profiles/
The Environment Agency will also assess what action is needed to improve water quality to meet the standards set by the Bathing Water Regulations.
And as the Ludlow Bathing Waters Group said ‘Hopefully over the next few years we'll see a significant improvement to the water quality throughout the catchment.’
