Round Table meeting on the Town Walls
A meeting was held on Friday 27th September with representatives from across the community to talk about how to move towards achieving a repair to the collapsed section of the town’s ancient wall.
The Ludlow Town Walls Trust, formed at the behest of English Heritage almost 20 years ago to facilitate repairs to the town’s walls, convened a meeting to discuss how to unlock the process to achieve a repair to the collapsed section of the Wall at the Garden of Rest.
Attending under the premise of ‘no liability’ were representatives from Ludlow Town Council, Shropshire Council and St Laurence’s Church. They were joined by members of the Town Walls Trust, Ludlow Civic Society, Ludlow Residents Group, a potential fundraiser and a representative from Historic England.
The meeting was chaired by Philip Dunne.
Recognising that the challenge of moving forward to a repair was stalled due to the issue of ownership and liability, it was agreed that the Ludlow Town Walls Trust was the logical body to take the lead and explore cost-effective solutions which would not impact financially on rate-payers or the town in general.
Another meeting will be arranged before Christmas to consider practical engineering options and thereafter to conduct a feasibility study.
