Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day 2024
Ludlow Marks Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day
On Sunday, November 10th, hundreds of Ludlow residents gathered to participate in a moving Remembrance Sunday service at Ludlow Peace Memorial followed by a magnificent parade in commemoration of those who served and sacrificed.
It was heartwarming and poignant that Danny Mason, who served in the 8th Battalion during WWII took the salute as the parade, led by Parade Marshall Adam Wickers, and including members of Ludlow’s Rainbows, Brownies, Scouts, Girl Guides, Army Cadets, and RAF Air Cadets, as well as veterans, Ludlow Fire Station, and Ludlow Police marched to church.
The wreath-laying ceremony at the Peace Memorial saw tributes from the Mayor Councillor Beverley Waite, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire Rhoddy Swires, Philip Dunne on behalf of MP Stuart Anderson, Archdeacon of Ludlow Fiona Gibson, local schools, and representatives from a wide range of community and religious groups.
Mayor of Ludlow, Councillor Beverley Waite, expressed her thanks, saying, “The incredible turnout reflects our community’s deep respect and gratitude for those who served. Their legacy lives on in Ludlow’s commitment to remember.”
Following the ceremony, a memorial service held at St. Laurence’s Church, led by Reverend Preb. Kelvin Price brought the community together in reflection and prayer.
On Armistice Day, November 11th, a second well-attended service was held at the Peace Memorial and the Mayor of Ludlow, Councillor Beverley Waite laid a wreath along with MP Stuart Anderson and local primary schoolchildren.
Ludlow Town Council would like to thank the public for attending both commemorations and express gratitude to Ludlow Castle, St Laurence Church, Ludlow RBL, Ludlow Concert Band, and the many organisations and representatives involved.
