Ludlow Marks Remembrance and Armistice with Community Reflection and the Lamp Light of Peace

Ludlow Town Council invites residents to join together in remembrance as the town prepares to honour all those who served and sacrificed in times of conflict.

On Sunday 8 November, the commemorations will begin as the Parade step off from Ludlow Castle to join the Mayor, Town Councillors, the Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire and residents of Ludlow at the Peace Memorial for the Act of Remembrance. This Service will include the Two Minutes’ Silence, the Last Post and the laying of wreaths by veterans’ organisations, civic representatives, uniformed groups, and local schools, followed by a moment of quiet reflection shared by the community. The morning will then continue with the Remembrance Service at St Laurence’s Church. Road closures will be in place between 10:30 -12:30 to ensure the safety of participants and spectators throughout the proceedings.

This year’s Remembrance carries a particular poignancy for the town with the passing of Danny Mason, a much‑loved Second World War veteran who joined Ludlow’s commemorations for many years. His presence, warmth, and quiet dignity were deeply valued by all who met him, and the Council acknowledges his service and the loss felt across the community. His memory will be held with gratitude as the town gathers once again in reflection.

On Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November, Ludlow will join the nation in observing the Two Minutes’ Silence at 11am at the Peace Memorial. with both the lighting of the Lamp Light of Peace and the raising of the Lamp Light of Peace flag at the Buttercross, together symbolising hope, unity, and Ludlow’s enduring commitment to peace.

Full details of timings, road closures, and accessibility arrangements will be available on the Ludlow Town Council social media channels.
