Local elections take place on 6th May 2021
Ludlow Town Council supports the ‘Make A Change’ campaign. It is reaching out to ask local people who are passionate about Ludlow to put themselves forward for election as a councillor.
In Shropshire, there are 277 local councils with 1,429 councillors. In Ludlow, there are 15 councillors covering seven wards. The electoral wards of Ludlow are Bringewood, Clee View, Corve, Gallows Bank, Hayton, Rockspring, and Whitcliffe wards, Councillors can make a real difference in Ludlow. Councillors give residents a voice on the decisions the council makes.
The work of your council benefits Ludlow. Ludlow is an active town council. In 2020, a new bus shelter was installed Sheet Road. The Town Centre CCTV was upgraded. Christmas Goodie bags were created and given to Ludlow’s Senior Citizens, an online Christmas lights video was created to celebrate Ludlow’s sparkle. In a more normal year, the town council runs a 48 pitch market six days a week, operates street trading, maintains the public toilets, and hosts the local museum at the Buttercross, as well as operating Henley Road cemetery, The Linney Riverside Park, Wheeler Road play area and other open spaces. We managed to keep many local services open during the pandemic, and we have worked in the background to develop and improve other services - we have received some grants to do this.
An integral part of this work is the job councillors do: engaging with local people, groups and businesses to find out their needs; making decisions on the services and projects the council should take forward; and getting involved to ensure services are meeting the community’s needs.
We are now asking people who want to improve the quality of life for their fellow residents to see Ludlow Town Council as a tool to make that change and stand for election.
Ludlow Town Council’s website www.ludlow.gov.uk is a good source of information for those who want to know more about being a local councillor, and the good your town council does for Ludlow. Close of nominations is 4pm on 8 April 2021.
