Town and Parish Councils are the first and most local and accessible tier of government.

Ludlow Town Council has fifteen  Councillors serving seven Wards .

The Full Council  of fifteen members meet every six weeks. Smaller groups of members also meet monthly in Committees, which focus on issues relating to Policy and Finance ; Council Services Planning, Grants and other organisations .

Town Councillors discuss local issues, and make locally focused  policy and decisions.   Meetings are held at Ludlow Conference Centre (formerly the Bishop Mascall Centre) Lower Galdeford, Ludlow and open to members of the public, who can address the meeting in the public session at the beginning of the meeting.  Current agendas and minutes are available from the  Committee pages .

The varied role of a town council means its work often becomes part of the fabric of the town.  To work well a town council needs to listen to the concerns of residents.   Ludlow town councillors and staff  work in partnership with a number of  Community Groups - all working for the enhancement and benefit of Ludlow.

Ludlow Town Council also is responsible for providing a range of services, which are managed and delivered by the Town Clerk and  Town Council Staff.    Ludlow Town Council is currently undertaking a comprehensive range of projects to improve historic buildings such as the Buttercross, The Linney recreation area, and Henley Road Cemetery.

Who does what?

Councillors and Officers are servants of the public and they are indispensable to one another, but their responsibilities are distinct.

Councillors are responsible to the electorate and serve only so long as their term of office lasts.

Officers are responsible to the Council. Their job is to give advice to Councillors and the Council, and to carry out the Council's work under the direction and control of the Council, its committees and sub-committees.
